Supporting veterans, service leavers and their families in Liverpool, Merseyside.
When someone ends up needing emergency or temporary accommodation, they’re not just facing housing insecurity they’re likely at one of the lowest, most uncertain, and scariest points in their life.
Whether they’ve been affected by homelessness as a result of leaving the military, domestic abuse, mental health struggles, or financial hardship, being placed into a room often in a B&B or hotel with no support, no privacy, and no hope can feel more like punishment than a step forward.
But what if this was the moment we made the biggest difference?
What if we saw this not just as a stop-gap, but as an opportunity to engage, support, and uplift?
At the very moment someone needs stability and compassion most, shouldn’t we offer more than just a roof over their head?
Temporary accommodation shouldn’t be where hope fades, it should be where hope starts to rebuild.
We have the infrastructure. We have the data. We have the tools.
Imagine pairing emergency accommodation with:
Emotional and mental health support
Financial advice and tenancy coaching
Access to a live and interactive support platform or even just a human to talk to
Move-on pathways and properties that they are proud of
The Block delivers this in Liverpool: Because Veterans deserve dignity not just shelter even in their darkest hour, over 160 Ex Armed forces veterans have received emergency accommodation and wrap around support since we launched the project in 2020 Some stayed for as little as a weekend while others up to one year +, over 85 % of the veterans left with a positive outcome which included, onward housing, treatment residential placements or they rejoined their family.
